Christchurch - New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key expressed his amazement at once grateful. How not, an earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale which meluluhlantakan Chirstchurch City had no casualties.
"This is a miracle. No one was killed," said John Key, when reviewing the location of the incident in the City Chirstchurch, quoted by Reuters on Sunday (05/09/2010). But he acknowledges, there was indeed a citizen who suffered minor injuries to serious injuries.
He said part of the reason for the big city to escape injury because the earthquake struck before dawn, where residents are used to conduct activities outside the building.
"If this happened five hours earlier or five hours later (when many people were in the city), then there will be an absolute slaughter of human life," he said, told TV One News Sunday.
Professor of Geology Mark Quigley of the University of Canterbury explains, the earthquake was caused by a collision between the plates in the Pacific. "Pacific Plate collided with the Australian tectonic plate," said Quigley
