KUWAIT - Kuwaiti MPs have filed a proposal for state aid-sex male citizens could have two wives, or polygamy. The proposal was put forward to reduce the high number of women who are not married in this oil-rich country.
"The proposal aims to solve the problem of unmarried women, it is a social problem. It also encouraged the widows and divorced couples to form a new family," said independent Shiite parliamentarians Faisal al-Duwaisan, as reported by AFP on Thursday (26/08/2010).
The country has also previously been poured aid for men who want to get married for the first time for four thousand dinars or approximately Rp153 million, half of a grant while the rest is interest-free loans with easy repayment.
But Duwaisan wants the government to approve the additional package of assistance for the men to have a second wife.
The prospective groom must have the approval of the first wife to marry again, or their status must be a widower or divorced.
The women they marry to be widowed, divorced or at least 40 years old and had never married, so the contents of the proposals.
